Episode Quotes

“Life is an evolution. So as I look at the reality of who I’ve become, I’m very happy, you know, but at the same time I’m, I’m humbled in every way every day.” –  Usher, reflecting on life

“I would not be who I am, what I am, without her.” –  Usher on the influence of his mother

“Everyone started talking about this little kid that was just the next Michael Jackson.” – Jonnetta Patton, Usher’s mother, on his first singing appearance

“I could not understand why this was happening to me. Uh, but more than anything, I couldn’t understand why these people were turning their back on me.” –  Usher on almost being dropped from his record label at age 15

“At heart I am a lover man, because I’d always wanted to be in a relationship, a serious relationship.” –  Usher on seeking love

“I never thought of him cheating, I don’t know I just, I didn’t expect anything like that from him because of how much we loved each other. But I kept hearing about it, then I went to him and I asked him and he… admitted it. You know I just, I felt like… a fool, I felt like everybody knew something and I didn’t, and I’m… just now finding out.” -  Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas on finding out about Usher’s infidelity

“I hated the album. You know, because I just, I hated what it stood for. I hated that it was blowing up because people were thinking that ‘Oh my God, this is all about their relationship,’ it was just too much. It was a lot for, it was too much for me to handle.” -  Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas on Usher’s album,  Confessions

“The relationship between me and Tameka, uh, definitely bothered my mother… She never chooses to speak about it, but, I think that she just didn’t approve of it because she didn’t want to.”  Usher on the rift between his ex-wife Tameka and his mother

“I’ve been with him holding his hand since the age of 13. So he kind of wanted to step out and do his own thing as a man and I applaud him for that.” -  Jonnetta Patton, Usher’s mother, on Usher firing her as his manager

“I felt like there was so much that I wanted to ask him. I wanted him to be clear about a few things with me and I wanted him to meet my son.” –  Usher on the death of his father

I’m paying a lot, but I got a lot out of the deal too, you know. Um my boys, I love them, you know, and I’ll never be unavailable for them. I’ll always be there. Not having my father be there is what makes me the father that I am to my sons.” –  Usher on fatherhood and being awarded joint custody of his two sons

“I began to regret the fact that my life was all over the place, and everybody had an opinion about it. I hated it, you know, I couldn’t allow myself to be seen that way and I’d gotten lost.” –  Usher on people criticizing his life choices and music

“They make me want to get up and live, you know. I have a purpose that is greater than just, you know, amassing wealth and being recognized, you know. This is real life now.” – Usher on being a father

Watch Usher On VH1′s “Friday Night Alright”

Tune in to VH1 next week as Usher performs at London’s Koko club. Fresh off the release of his latest studio album, “Raymond v. Raymond”, Usher is basking in the glow of being named Billboard Magazine’s No. 1 Hot 100 artist of the 2000s for having 13 consecutive top-20 singles (seven reaching No. 1). “Usher is obviously a target artist for the VH1 audience,”  says Ben Zurier (executive vice president of programming for VH1, VH1 Classic and Palladia). Zurier says. “He has such broad appeal — men, women, different ethnic groups — we’re even airing a ‘Behind the Music’ on Usher this month.

“Originally they were going to shoot this concert earlier in the year, but the volcano (in Iceland) blew, so we had to put it off a bit,” Zurier says. “But it’s a really cool club in London where they have a lot of great shows. Although I’m sure it is a much smaller stage than they are used to performing on … it will really make you appreciate the intimacy.” (That’s code for “The dancers felt superfluous.”) ‘London Live: Usher’ will air on July 16, 2010 on VH1 at 11 pm.

Usher: “Behind The Music” Premiere

Usher and Jennifer Lopez are set to share the spotlight on VH1′s new season of  ‘Behind The Music’ with Jennifer Hudson, Courtney Love and Eve.

Narrated by Jim Forbes, the forthcoming season of  ’Behind The Music’ is set to give viewers an inside look into the personal and professional lives of each artist with commentary from those who know them best.

Recent BET Award nominee, Usher, will be chronicled July 19 according to VH1.

Covering his beginnings from a small town choirboy who was discovered at a local talent show to one of the biggest selling R&B artists of all time, VH1 sits down with the “OMG” singer for an exclusive interview where he opens up like never before about leaving home at fifteen years old to work on his self-titled debut album with Sean “Puffy” Combs and the endless temptations he faced living in the big city.

While the special is mostly focused on his music, the singer also confesses to having a longtime crush on TLC’s Chilli, the rumors of infidelity and comes clean about the real reason behind their breakup.

Usher’s mother, Jonetta Patton, L.A. Reid, and Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs are also featured in ‘Behind The Music: Usher’.

Usher To Share His Story On VH1

While it may appear that VH1 is now the go-to cable network for reality series, the off-shoot of MTV is putting its focus back on to music later this year. Starting in September, music will make up 40 percent of the total programming.

Earlier this week, VH1 announced new shows, spin-offs and returning series at its upfront presentations for advertisers. Among the television programs announced were a few notable specials featuring some of today’s celebrated music artists.

New episodes of the Emmy-nominated series ‘Behind the Music’ will begin airing in June. Usher, Jennifer Hudson, DMX, Eve and Jennifer Lopez are a few of the note-worthy artists who will be profiled on the show, which gives fans an inside look into the lives of these superstar performers.

Christina Aguilera will kick off the new season of the intimate concert performance series ‘VH1 Storytellers.’ And the network’s 2010 concert series, ‘Friday Night Alright,’ will resume with performances from Lady Gaga and again Usher, to name a few.
