End Of Concert

It was good timing for the San Manuel Indian Bingo and Casino to book Usher.

The R&B/hip hop star performed Thursday night in Highland with his “Raymond v. Raymond” debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart of top-selling albums.

The show sold out, and a capacity crowd of 3,700 poured into the casino to catch it, according to San Manuel. The shaking floor in the showroom was due to enthusiastic fans, not an earthquake.

The concert started at 7:55 p.m., 25 minutes late, to accommodate late arrivals.

Flanked by dancers, Usher made a dramatic entrance in a blast of fog. He first reeled off hits from his early albums. He dedicated the “slow portion” of the show to “the single ladies in the audience.” There were a lot.

He used the 2004 song “Confessions Part II” as an intro to “a very significant confession” on his latest album, the track “There Goes My Baby.”

Toward the end of the 90-minute set, Usher said he wanted to “show his appreciation” to record-buyers: “Every time we made No. 1, you made No. 1.”
