Usher To Play MJ In New Biopic? (MTV Australia)

King of Pop Michael Jackson could soon be the King of the big screen too after new plans to turn his life into a movie!

According to Variety, John Branca, the executor of the Jackson estate, has reportedly approached Ivan Reitman and Tom Pollock’s Montecito Picture Company about taking his incredible journey to Hollywood.

And while we’re stoked at the idea of a Jacko biopic, we could have a pretty long wait in store…

According to Variety, talks to produce and finance the project are still in the early stages but there’s said to be “no deal” in place yet.

But, if it does work out, just who would be worthy of filling the singer’s famous moon-walking shoes?

Well, according to Gigwise, the favorites so far include heartthrob Johnny Depp, smooth-mover Usher, singer-turned-actor Will Smith, ‘High School Musical’ cutie Zac Efron and star Justin Timberlake.

Remembering Michael Jackson: “Gone Too Soon” (One Year Later)

“This loss has deeply saddened me, with a heavy heart I composed this statement. May God cover you Michael. We all lift your name up in prayer. I pray for the entire JACKSON family particularly Michael’s mother and all his fans that loved him so much. I would not be the artist, performer, and philanthropist I am today without the influence of Michael. I have great admiration and respect for him and I’m so thankful I had the opportunity to meet and perform with such a great entertainer In so many ways he transcended culture. He broke barriers, he changed radio formats! With music, he made it possible for people like Oprah Winfrey and Barack Obama to impact the mainstream world. His legacy is unparalleled Michael Jackson will never be forgotten.” ~ Usher

Usher & Others To Honor Michael Jackson At Grammys

In addition to receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Recording Academy the day before the Grammy Awards, Michael Jackson will be the subject of a tribute by Usher, Jennifer Hudson, Carrie Underwood, Celine Dion and Smokey Robinson at the Grammys on January 31.

The tribute will include never-before-released footage from Jackson’s 3-D mini-movie “Earth Song,” which was meant to be included in his This Is It tour and has never been seen by the public. The message of the song and the film is that we need to put the future of the planet first.

“It was one of the most important portions of the concert tour to Michael, and when Michael saw the film for the first time at his last rehearsal, there were tears in his eyes,” Grammy co-executive producer Ken Ehrlich said in a statement. He was at the rehearsal when Jackson saw the film.

CBS, which airs the Grammy Awards, has teamed up with Target to provide free 3-D glasses to those who want to view the footage at home. They will be available January 24 through January 31 at Target stores. This is the first time an awards show has broadcast a segment in 3-D.

“This very special Grammy moment will feature some of our most respected Grammy recipients, all of whom have a great love for Michael,” added Neil Portnow, president and CEO of the Recording Academy. “This segment promises to be an emotional highlight of this year’s show, and is sure to join the unique list of amazing performances for which the Grammy Awards have become renowned.”

Robinson, Hudson and Usher were among those who paid tribute to Jackson at his star-studded memorial held last July. Late last year, Jermaine Jackson seemed enthusiastic about the Grammy Awards paying tribute to his late brother, saying, “We’d just like to see exactly what went down in a great sort of tribute or whatever the plan is. We want it to be real.”

The 52nd GRAMMY Awards will take place live on Sunday, Jan. 31 at Staples Center in Los Angeles and will be broadcast in HDTV and 5.1 Surround Sound on the CBS Television Network from 8–11:30 p.m. (ET/PT). The show also will be supported on radio via Westwood One worldwide, and covered online at GRAMMY.com and CBS.com, and on YouTube.

Like Jackson, Usher Strives To Make The World A Better Place

 ushernlpic

By KELLEY L. CARTER
USA Today

LOS ANGELES — Usher Raymond wants to build a philanthropic portfolio just like that of his idol, Michael Jackson.

“I paid close attention to what celebrities like Michael Jackson had done with his brand,” Raymond said less than three weeks before the pop star’s death. “He made philanthropy something that was kind of like a sense of heart work, and not hard work. All of the hard work went into who he was as a celebrity; the heart work made a difference. ”

It’s fitting that just six days after Raymond’s tear-filled tribute at the Jackson public memorial, he’ll continue in the footsteps of the King of Pop. (Raymond declined interviews to discuss his performance at the tribute, out of respect for the Jackson family.)

Monday marked the official start of Camp New Look, a Raymond-backed summer camp that invites 130 children to spend two weeks in Atlanta learning about the business side of sports and entertainment.

Raymond, 30, who is part owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers and also fronts a top-selling men’s and women’s fragrance line (Usher HE and Usher SHE), didn’t want to simply write a check to charity. He wanted to work with the kids himself, he says.

“They say in life you can be a product of your experience or a product of your environment. I choose to be a product of my experience.”

In the camp, the children get to taste what Usher’s life is like by working behind the scenes in sports, entertainment and business. One summer, for example, the children were able to come up with a marketing campaign for a new fragrance, including contract negotiations and pitch meetings.

“There are a few very unique cases where kids come out of … hardworking families, kids like Serena and Venus (Williams). Kids like Tiger Woods. And then there are cases where kids come from the bottom,” he says. “Every kid may not be able to be a football player, athlete, artist, but there are so many other talents that kids have.”

Usher’s own sons — 1 and one-half-year-old Usher Raymond V and 7-month-old Naviyd Ely Raymond — are a source of inspiration, but Raymond says he has always been interested in motivating children. (In mid-June, Raymond filed for divorce from the children’s’ mother, Tameka Foster. In the filing, the singer says the marriage is “irretrievably broken.” )

“This was something that I did before I was a dad. I want to be motivating to those who have talent or who just need motivation,” he says. “With my campers, I don’t look at them as children. I look at them as young adults.

“These kids come here and they’re like ‘Oh, wow … we’re going to learn about entertainment!’ But they leave engaged in life and knowing that, ‘I can have a future outside of music.’ That’s what makes me most proud.”
