Outcome of Usher’s New Look Foundation Leadership Session With London-Based Organization A Success

Usher’s New Look Foundation announces first-ever London training session a success.
In partnership with two London-based non-profit organizations The Brunswick Club for Young People and the LoveLife Generation, New Look sponsored a leadership training program on February 19th in London. All three organizations share the same goals and objectives of providing a supportive and safe environment for local youth to grow, develop and contribute back to the community.
The leadership conference was led by a delegation of three of New Look’s youth mentors including James Harris from Kansas City, Kansas; Chase Browning from Atlanta, Georgia, and Sebastian Van Oudenallen from Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
The focus of the leadership training session was to help local youth discover means for utilizing their creative talents to bring a positive impact to their community. In addition to the selected leadership mentors and local participants, in attendance were also: Founding Chairman [Usher Raymond IV, Board President Shawn H. Wilson, and Board Member Scott Mead.
Usher explained the idea behind bringing promising youth from the US to England, “In order to mentor youth as global leaders, we must take them out of their communities and introduce them to diverse leadership experiences on an international level.”
Board President Shawn Wilson also expressed his satisfaction with the successful event stating, “We are thrilled to bring the New Look program model to London…and look forward to seeing a positive impact in the London community.”
Board Member Scott Mead emphasized the importance of expanding the foundation’s reach, “As a philanthropist, I recognize the work Mr. Raymond has established through New Look as an invaluable resource for the young people who have experienced the program… [and] I feel privileged to assist in expanding its reach to London.”
The London training session was part of New Look’s two-year leadership program, New Look Leadership Academy. The Academy program is offered to American high school juniors and seniors who undergo a competitive evaluation process. Applicants are accepted based on a number of criteria including indicators of: vulnerability, poverty, leadership, talent and interest in arts, sports or the entertainment industry.
Founded by Usher in 1999, The New Look Foundation strives to address the many challenges faced by today’s youth. With a continued drop in national test scores and ever-growing challenges in entering the job-market, the New Look Foundation provides young people with a supportive environment to develop the leadership skills to thrive as individuals. The organization also focuses its attention on transforming youth into resources of strength and positive change in their communities. After more than a decade, New Look has created a strong and active board comprised of a number of seasoned professionals from diverse backgrounds including Vice Board Chairman and entertainment lawyer Virgil Roberts, Board Treasurer and Financial Management consultant Solomon Smallwood, board member and businessman Lorenzo Creighton, and board member and Senior Vice President of the National Hockey League Ken Yaffe.
To date, New Look Foundation has accumulated over 150,000 hours of leadership training and mentorship and has worked with over 8,700 young people from the United States, Europe, Africa and Asia.

Usher Makes Surprise Visit To New Look Foundation Workshop At The Brunswick Club (UK)

Between sold-out shows at the O2, Usher met 30 teenagers at Fulham’s Brunswick Club for Young People to discuss the problems they face.

He now hopes to establish a permanent London base for his New Look Foundation to mentor teenagers from impoverished areas.

Usher brought three of his New Look mentors – once-troubled youngsters who came through his program and now help others – to the charity club on Saturday for a workshop which included team-building sessions and motivational talks.

He told the Standard: “This is one of many workshops I hope to hold and an opportunity to introduce the kids here to our program. We spoke about teenage pregnancy, gang violence, incarceration, isolation – and one very specific thing was knife crime. It’s something the kids kept bringing up and obviously it’s a huge issue here.

“The program is about finding the root of the issue and addressing that, and hopefully motivating change. We would love to set up a permanent presence here in London. I really hope London is receptive, as this really does work. I think that us giving youth the responsibility and the chance to have a voice makes a difference.”

Usher’s New Look Foundation Hits The UK

Usher’s New Look Foundation announced on Feb. 17 that three outstanding New Look youth mentors will be joining Usher in London as part of the New Look Foundation’s ongoing multi-year leadership training certification program.  The training session will be led by James Harris (Kansas City, KS), Chase Browning (Atlanta, GA) and Sebastian Van Oudenallen (Milwaukee, WI), on Saturday, February 19, 2011.

While in London, the three New Look teens will provide leadership training to a group of young people involved in two London based organizations: The Brunswick Club for Young People and the loveLife Generation.  These organizations share in New Look’s vision to help young people strengthen their talents and get engaged in service and civic life.  The session will help youth utilize their creative talents to create change in their communities.

“The work we do with the New Look Foundation is never far from my heart.  In order to mentor youth as global leaders, we must take them out of their communities and introduce them to diverse leadership experiences on an international level,” said Usher Raymond IV, Founding Chairman of Usher’s New Look Foundation.  ”I know the New Look mentors will learn just as much from the London youth as they learn from our own.”

“We are thrilled to bring the New Look program model to London,” said Shawn H. Wilson, President of Usher’s New Look Foundation.  ”We are constantly working to expand our global reach.  We have trained youth in the Philippines and Kenya and look forward to seeing a positive impact in the London community.”

“As a philanthropist, I recognize the work Usher has established through New Look as an invaluable resource for the young people who have experienced the program,” said Scott Mead, New Look Foundation Board Member.  ”I feel privileged to assist in expanding its reach to London and I know that it will leave an impact with our youth.”

As a reward for completing the training session, Usher will surprise the London teens with tickets to his concert at the 02 Arena as well as a chance to meet him.  Additionally, this summer, The Brunswick Club and the loveLife Generation will send their teen members to attend the World Leadership Conference, hosted by New Look in Atlanta, GA.  The World Leadership Conference is an annual opportunity for New Look to train youth from around the world to become local and global leaders while interacting with other youth, celebrities, athletes, politicians and corporate executives.

The New Look Foundation empowers, motivates and inspires young people to create change while offering them the tools and resources they need to succeed as leaders.  The Foundation has provided over 150,000 hours of leadership training and has worked with more than 8,700 youth around the world.
