Usher & David Guetta Reach #1 On Pop Songs Chart With “Without You”

David Guetta scores his first No. 1 on Billboard’s Nielsen BDS-based Pop Songs radio airplay chart, as “Without You,” featuring Usher, rises 2-1.

The song marks the French DJ/producer/songwriter’s first leader on the list. He had previously peaked as high as No. 3 with “Sexy Chick,” featuring Akon, last year. It’s also the first No. 1 by a solo male for Capitol Records in the survey’s 19-year history.

“It’s amazing. My first time in the U.S. (with) a No. 1. It’s really exciting … everything is fantastic!,” Guetta beamed to Billboard.com on notching his first Pop Songs topper. “Finally dance music is happening in the U.S.!”

Usher earns his second Pop Songs No. 1 after reigning for three weeks with “Yeah!,” featuring Lil Jon and Ludacris, in 2004. He’d stopped just one spot short of the summit six times since then, most recently with “DJ Got Us Fallin’ in Love,” featuring Pitbull, a year ago.

“There Goes My Baby” Reaches #1 On Billboard

Usher has bumped Alicia Keys out of the top spot on the R&B/Hip-Hop Singles chart with “There Goes My Baby,” the fourth single from his hit record Raymond v. Raymond. This is Usher’s 11th single to reach #1.

Keys was number one for ten straight weeks with her Element of Freedom single “Un-Thinkable (I’m Ready),” but has now fallen to number two. Drake rounds out the top three with “Find Your Love” from his debut album Thank Me Later.

Thus far all of the singles from Raymond v. Raymond have enjoyed nice runs on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. The first single, “Hey Daddy (Daddy’s Home),” peaked at number two with “Lil Freak” following at number eight and “OMG” hitting number one on the Hot 100.

Raymond v. Raymond debuted at the number one spot on the Billboard 200 chart and has been certified platinum by the RIAA. The album sold 329,000 units in its first week.

Usher: #2 On Billboard’s “Songs Of The Summer” List

Finally, Billboard came up with a way to determine the ultimate summer jam.

Every year, there is undoubtedly a summer anthem. However, there has never been an official way to determine what that anthem is. That has changed since Billboard released its newest chart; Songs of the Summer.

MTV News reports the new chart ranks the Top 10 summer jams “based on actual performance on the Billboard Hot 100, from June 12, 2010, chart date through the most-recent chart.”

On September 9, the “Songs of the Summer” chart will cease to run and Billboard will announce the number one summer anthem — this time with backup evidence.

As of now, Katy Perry is not surprisingly at the head of the chart with “California Gurls” and Usher is pulling in at #2 with “OMG.” In third place currently is B.o.B. and Hayley Williams with “Airplanes.”

The rest of the chart is as follows:

#4: Travie McCoy/Bruno Mars “Billionaire”
#5: Ke$ha “Your Love Is My Drug”
#6: Lady Gaga “Alejandro”
#7: Taio Cruz “Break Your Heart”
#8: Drake “Find Your Love”
#9: Eminem “Not Afraid”
#10: Mike Posner “Cooler Than Me”

Since the chart’s race to determine the summer anthem champion is just one month in with a couple left, the charts are expected to change with new releases and impacts from the Hot 100 list.

Billboard also released a second chart, according to MTV. This one is a “comprehensive list of the biggest summer songs of the past quarter-century, as determined by impact on the Hot 100 and “an inverse point system, with weeks at #1 earning the greatest value and weeks at No. 100 earning the least.”

Usher Leads U.S. Singles Chart

Usher has broken another record !

In addition to scoring the top debut for an R&B artist with “Confessions” in 2004, Usher is now the first artist in the 17-year history of the Rhythmic radio airplay chart to collect 10 no.1s ! The record breaking feat is thanks to his will.i.am featured single “OMG,” which rose 2-1 this week.

“OMG” has had similar success on the Billboard Hot 100, Billboard R&B/Hip Hop Songs chart and UK Singles Chart. The record is taken from Usher’s 2010 effort “Raymond V. Raymond,” which debuted atop the Billboard 200 in April.

Usher also led Billboard’s Hot 100 singles chart for a third non-consecutive week on Thursday, while Miley Cyrus scored the top debut.

“OMG” reclaimed the No. 1 spot on the Digital Songs tally with 236,000 downloads, according to Nielsen SoundScan, after last topping that list three weeks ago.

Usher Makes Hot 100 History

As reported earlier in a breaking news story, Usher moves to the head of the Hot 100 ranking with “OMG,” featuring will.i.am, his ninth single to top the list.

With the 6-1 ascension, Usher becomes the first artist to top the list in the past three decades. His first No. 1, “Nice & Slow” ruled for three weeks in February 1998, and was followed by three chart-toppers in 2001, four in 2004 and one in 2008. Only Madonna and Janet Jackson were able to pull off the three-decade achievement in the 80s, 90s and 00s.

“OMG” takes both the Airplay and Digital Gainer awards, moving into the top 10 of Radio Songs (14-7) and to No. 1 on Digital Songs (2-1).

Making way for Usher’s chart champ is B.o.B’s “Nothin’ on You” which falls to No. 2 after two weeks on top. The Atlanta rapper’s new single “Airplanes,” featuring Eminem and Hayley Williams, jumps 9-7 on the Hot 100 and arrives on Radio Songs at No. 41, the highest debut on that chart since Usher’s “Love In This Club” opened at No. 38 in the May 10, 2008, issue.
