Official “Raymond vs. Raymond” Press Release

Album Reveals Different Sides Of The Multi-Faceted Singer

Usher Raymond IV’s highly anticipated sixth studio album, Raymond v. Raymond will be released on March 30th.

Raymond v. Raymond comes as the five-time Grammy winner currently has, or is featured in four chart-topping songs on U.S. urban charts: “Papers” which rapidly climbed to #1 on the urban adult airplay chart last year, remains a Top 5 and 15 staple on both adult R&B and urban mainstream charts respectively; “Hey Daddy (Daddy’s Home)” featuring Plies claims the No. 19 spot on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart; “There Goes My Baby” ranks No. 16 on the urban adult contemporary airplay chart; and Raymond’s collaboration with Gucci Mane, “Spotlight,” is in the Top 15 on the Hot Rap Songs chart.

Raymond v. Raymond finds the iconic singer addressing various topics reflecting the dichotomies of life. It is described as a natural follow-up to Usher’s ground-breaking 2004 Confessions album which earned him the distinction of being the “Top Hot 100 Artist of the Decade” with 13 consecutive top 20 singles (seven reaching No. 1 and collectively spending the most weeks atop the chart for any act in the decade) according to Billboard magazine. The new album contains the smoldering signature ballads and hypnotic up-tempos the multi-talented, all around entertainer is known for.

Leading up to the release Usher will appear in a number of high profile performances kicking off with the 2010 Grammy’s on January 31st (CBS); followed by a half-time performance on the NBA All-Star Game on February 14th (TNT); and he will headline the final Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games, Nightly Victory Ceremony Concert on February 27th (NBC).

Additionally, TNT joined forces with Usher to feature his song “More” as part of the network’s marketing campaign for 2010 NBA All-Star. TNT filmed an exclusive music video with Usher that will serve as a promotional spot airing in 600 Regal Cinemas beginning Friday, Jan. 29. In addition, the video will be used as part of the network’s campaign to promote its exclusive coverage of 2010 NBA All-Star Game in Dallas, TX on Sunday, Feb. 14.

MTV will exclusively premiere his “Hey Daddy (Daddy’s Home)” video, directed by Chris Robinson, tomorrow (Thursday, January 28th) at 6AM EST.

Another Sneak Peek of “Hey Daddy” (Daddy’s Home)

Another day, another Confession. For his new album, Raymond vs. Raymond, the all-singing, all-dancing R&B sensation, Usher, is going with what got him here (“here” being one of pop and R&B’s biggest stars).

Raymond vs. Raymond promises to have the same intimate, detailed, revelatory feeling of the Atlanta singer’s breakthrough Confessions, as it will likely deal heavily with Usher’s 2009 divorce from Tameka Foster.

But! Before all that sadness and irreconcilable differences, we get the party: the first single and video from Raymond vs. Raymond, “Hey Daddy.”

In this sneak peek of “Hey Daddy,” we get a glimpse of an unburdened and decidedly single Usher, dancing with a gaggle of model-esque chicks (or dancer-esque models, take your pick). There’s a little bit of business taking place at a restaurant as well, but we’ll have to wait for the full version to see what that’s all about.

Stay tuned for the full-length premiere of Usher’s “Hey Daddy” video. Usher’s Raymond vs. Raymond due out in March.

Usher On Larry King Live & LKL Blog Entry

Usher appeared on Larry King Live tonight to discuss Powered By Service, the latest aide efforts in Haiti, etc. (video to follow, if available)

Shawn H. Wilson, President of Usher’s “New Look” organization, has posted an entry on the Larry King Live Blog.

Below is an excerpt of the blog entry….to see the remainder click here.

****************************************************************

Last week a massive earthquake struck Haiti. It is the largest natural disaster the country has ever seen and many communities, families and youth are in dire need of assistance. As with many disasters, out of the rumble comes a renewed sense of service and charity from people around the world looking for ways to give back and support people in need. Within hours of the disaster there were messages flooding the internet, television and radio giving people an answer to the question of the day: “How can I help?”

Who will answer the call? Traditionally we turn to the government, celebrities and foundations to supply donations and support. However, we often forget about one group. This group represents more than half the world’s population. This group has the power, creativity and innovation to have a serious impact on global problems. This group has the savvy to mobilize millions. Who am I talking about? Young people!

Usher To Be Apart Of “We Are The World” Re-Recording

Video of Original Recording Session

Quincy Jones and Lionel Richie will re-record We Are the World with some of world’s top recording artists next month to raise money for Haiti, Billboard.com reports.

The single will be recorded in Los Angeles on Feb. 1, following the Grammy Awards weekend, and will also mark the 25th anniversary of the original recording.

The song, co-written by Richie and Michael Jackson, and co-produced by Jones, in 1985, raised money for Africa and led to the Live Aid charity concert. The long and diverse list of more than 40 singers included Stevie Wonder, Bob Dylan, Ray Charles, Dionne Warwick, Bette Midler, Waylon Jennings, Paul Simon, Willie Nelson and Bruce Springsteen.

This time, Usher, Natalie Cole and John Legend have been invited to take part in a “supergroup” recording. Billboard says the 2010 roster may also include Wyclef Jean, Sting, Fergie, Alicia Keys and Justin Timberlake among others.

Usher & Others To Honor Michael Jackson At Grammys

In addition to receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Recording Academy the day before the Grammy Awards, Michael Jackson will be the subject of a tribute by Usher, Jennifer Hudson, Carrie Underwood, Celine Dion and Smokey Robinson at the Grammys on January 31.

The tribute will include never-before-released footage from Jackson’s 3-D mini-movie “Earth Song,” which was meant to be included in his This Is It tour and has never been seen by the public. The message of the song and the film is that we need to put the future of the planet first.

“It was one of the most important portions of the concert tour to Michael, and when Michael saw the film for the first time at his last rehearsal, there were tears in his eyes,” Grammy co-executive producer Ken Ehrlich said in a statement. He was at the rehearsal when Jackson saw the film.

CBS, which airs the Grammy Awards, has teamed up with Target to provide free 3-D glasses to those who want to view the footage at home. They will be available January 24 through January 31 at Target stores. This is the first time an awards show has broadcast a segment in 3-D.

“This very special Grammy moment will feature some of our most respected Grammy recipients, all of whom have a great love for Michael,” added Neil Portnow, president and CEO of the Recording Academy. “This segment promises to be an emotional highlight of this year’s show, and is sure to join the unique list of amazing performances for which the Grammy Awards have become renowned.”

Robinson, Hudson and Usher were among those who paid tribute to Jackson at his star-studded memorial held last July. Late last year, Jermaine Jackson seemed enthusiastic about the Grammy Awards paying tribute to his late brother, saying, “We’d just like to see exactly what went down in a great sort of tribute or whatever the plan is. We want it to be real.”

The 52nd GRAMMY Awards will take place live on Sunday, Jan. 31 at Staples Center in Los Angeles and will be broadcast in HDTV and 5.1 Surround Sound on the CBS Television Network from 8–11:30 p.m. (ET/PT). The show also will be supported on radio via Westwood One worldwide, and covered online at GRAMMY.com and CBS.com, and on YouTube.
