Cory Nettles, founder and managing director of Milwaukee-based Generation Growth Capital, Inc., has been named to the board of directors of Usher’s New Look Foundation. Nettles will serve on the Foundation’s development committee and lend his expertise to guide the strategic fund development goals of the Foundation which certifies young people in four leadership areas including talent, education, career and service.
“We are extremely fortunate that this esteemed individual has agreed to join our Board and team,” said Shawn Wilson, president of Usher’s New Look. “The depth of his experience is truly exceptional, and his advice and guidance will prove invaluable as we continue the growth of New Look.”
Generation Growth Capital, Inc. is a private equity fund focused on buyouts and providing growth capital to small businesses and low middle market companies in the upper-Midwest. Nettles also serves as Of Counsel at the law firm Quarles & Brady LLP in the corporate services and government relations group.
Since 1999, Usher’s New Look Foundation has mentored over 9,000 youth and has provided over 150,000 hours of leadership training in civic engagement, education, business skills and talent and creativity. The foundation plans to certify 50,000 youth as leaders by 2015.

Usher attended and performed at Alicia Keys’ benefit for her Keep a Child Alive Foundation last night in New York City’s Hammerstein Ballroom. Usher, Keys, and Sambora shared duties in a rendition of Harrison’s “Here Comes the Sun”. The concert raised $3 million for AIDS treatment and care in India and Africa.

Alicia Keys’ charity will pay tribute to late Beatle guitarist George Harrison with a concert in New York City next month.

Her charity, called Keep a Child Alive, will honor Harrison at its annual Black Ball event for his “philanthropic contributions to India.”

The charity announced Tuesday that Keys will perform alongside Usher, Norah Jones and Will.i.am at the Nov. 3 show at Manhattan’s Hammerstein Ballroom. Mary J. Blige, Gary Clark Jr., Jay Sean and Midival Punditz with Karsh Kale will also hit the stage.

Harrison died of lung cancer at age 58 in 2001.

The event marks the eighth year for Keep a Child Alive, which helps children affected by HIV/AIDS in Africa and India.

All proceeds from the show will go to the charity.

Keep A Child Alive is running a contest for those who wish to attend. Two prize packages are being offered to donors chosen randomly who donate $10 to the charity and join the Black Ball VIPs. One winner will get 2 tickets for dinner and the performances on the main floor for the concert. 2 second prize winners will receive 2 tickets for cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and the performances in the balcony area.

The National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis is honoring Usher with its Philanthropy Freedom Award!

The museum said in a news release Tuesday that it is honoring Usher, for the work done by his New Look Foundation. The foundation certifies young people in four leadership categories — talent, education, career and service. The foundation has raised financial resources for Hurricane Katrina victims and issued a “call to action” for Haiti relief in 2010.

The Freedom Awards recognize individuals who work for justice, equality, philanthropy, civil and human rights and humanitarian causes.

Usher will be honored Nov. 12 with this year’s other Freedom Award winners, who include Dr. Bill Frist, former NBA player Bill Russell and actress Cicely Tyson.

50 Cent is hoping to enlist Justin Bieber, Usher and Lady GaGa to help him combat starvation in Africa.

He has launched a range of energy drinks called Street King to raise money for impoverished African children.

50 Cent said that the Street King drinks have already generated enough sales to feed 2.5 million kids in Africa, but he hopes more celebrity endorsers will help him provide food for 1 billion by 2016.

“It sold out, the first 4,000 shipments in stores in like, 50 states, is sold out… and I was being conservative, because of the actual pre-orders, I was actually able to feed 2.5 million [on Wednesday] and I already have interest expressed by other a bunch of people like Usher, Justin Bieber, Lady GaGa, Drake… so we’re looking forward to building bigger and better things,” WENN quotes him as saying.
