Usher: #2 On Billboard’s “Songs Of The Summer” List

Finally, Billboard came up with a way to determine the ultimate summer jam.

Every year, there is undoubtedly a summer anthem. However, there has never been an official way to determine what that anthem is. That has changed since Billboard released its newest chart; Songs of the Summer.

MTV News reports the new chart ranks the Top 10 summer jams “based on actual performance on the Billboard Hot 100, from June 12, 2010, chart date through the most-recent chart.”

On September 9, the “Songs of the Summer” chart will cease to run and Billboard will announce the number one summer anthem — this time with backup evidence.

As of now, Katy Perry is not surprisingly at the head of the chart with “California Gurls” and Usher is pulling in at #2 with “OMG.” In third place currently is B.o.B. and Hayley Williams with “Airplanes.”

The rest of the chart is as follows:

#4: Travie McCoy/Bruno Mars “Billionaire”
#5: Ke$ha “Your Love Is My Drug”
#6: Lady Gaga “Alejandro”
#7: Taio Cruz “Break Your Heart”
#8: Drake “Find Your Love”
#9: Eminem “Not Afraid”
#10: Mike Posner “Cooler Than Me”

Since the chart’s race to determine the summer anthem champion is just one month in with a couple left, the charts are expected to change with new releases and impacts from the Hot 100 list.

Billboard also released a second chart, according to MTV. This one is a “comprehensive list of the biggest summer songs of the past quarter-century, as determined by impact on the Hot 100 and “an inverse point system, with weeks at #1 earning the greatest value and weeks at No. 100 earning the least.”
